It’s mango season here in the Cayman Islands, and I’m so excited to share some tasty recipes using this delicious fruit.
Let me start by saying I’ve never bought mangoes ever in my life.
It’s not because I don’t want to or I’m cheap, but when you live in the Caribbean, you often know someone with too many ripened mangoes.
So you end up getting some of that excess.
When I lived in Jamaica, my grandpa always had at least 2-3 buckets of mangoes ready to give my mom.
And that’s just for half of the season.
We’d often have so much different types of mangoes, from everyone’s favorite Julie or East Indian to the basic ones like Common and Blackie.
Since living away from home, I’m now in a position where I’m getting too much for just me and hubby to enjoy.
And I hate to see them go to waste spoiling on my counter.
So why not freeze them and use them to make yummy summer mango treats?
What Is Mango Purée?
Let’s first explain what it means to purée something.
Purée is a mash of cooked food, vegetables, fruits, or legumes pressed, blended, grounded, or sieved to a smooth, creamy paste or liquid.
Before blenders, purées can be done by hand using a fork, potato masher, or other utensils.
But now, with a blender or food processor, you can make this process much faster.
Mango purée is a blended pulp of fresh mangoes. It makes the ideal, plain, fresh mango purée anyone can enjoy.
