FIFA World Cup 2022
The FIFA World Cup Games are finally here.
I’m a little excited as I’ve never experienced watching the game in another country before.
Each year when the World Cup games are played I mostly get my updates through social media or maybe catch a match if I’m around people who are watching it.
I’ll start by letting you know that I’m not a football fan. It’s not that I don’t like the sport.
It’s more that it’s not an interesting topic that I see myself getting excited for.
I guess that comes with the lifestyle of being, well, a girl.
And not to say that there aren’t females that are true football fans.
Kudos to you! But it’s just not my cup of tea.
However, when you’re with someone who IS a football fan then you’re mindset changes about the entire thing.
My hubby D, is a real football fan. And I love that about him because it shows that he’s passionate about something.
I will never forget when we first started dating, he invited me to his place to chill.
His favorite team, Manchester United, was playing a match that day.
I don’t remember who made the goal but they scored their first goal of the match and the excitement that lit up his face had me in awe.
I didn’t know he was THIS passionate about the sport.
Seeing him getting all psyched up about the goal. I found it adorable and it made me like him even more.
Qatar FIFA World Cup Games
So as the the World Cup games drew closer this year, I knew it wasn’t going to be a miss for either of us.
As we had recently moved to our new place in the Cayman Islands, we didn’t have everything set up to watch all the games at home.
So D suggested that for the first match, we’d catch it at a sporting bar or restaurant nearby.
I was pretty excited to go out and catch the game especially since I wanted to see what’s it like watching the games from another country.
If you didn’t know I’m from Jamaican and in my home country football is a big thing there.
Once the World Cup games begin everyone will be talking about.
Since we didn’t make it to the World Cup this year, the people of Jamaica are still in tune with the matches as they support one of football’s major competitors for the sport, Brazil.
There are a few other major players that Jamaicans support such as Argentina, Portugal, France, and others but I think Brazil is a top favorite for us.
Did You Know?
Jamaica made it to the World Cup once back in 1998. And although we didn’t win, I’m still proud of my little country because this is a huge international event.
And to have little Jamaica showing their skills against some of the best teams out there then that in itself is a win for us.
What Is The FIFA World Cup Games?
If you’re like me and you’re clueless about what the FIFA World Cup games are then let me give a little insight from one newb to the next.
According to FIFA’s website, the World Cup games is the most prestigious tournament in the world.
Taking place quadrennially, the FIFA Men’s World Cup™ sees 32 nations compete against each other for the prize.
With continental qualification pathways leading to an exciting finals event, it brings fans together around the passion and love for the game.
Thirty-two (32) countries is certainly a lot.
And I’m quite certain these teams worked very hard to qualify for this event.
Given its attraction, it’s the one event that which these teams get the chance to show off their best skills, especially as new and veteran players.
Where Was The 2022 World Cup Games Held?
This year, the games were held in the country of Qatar.
A peninsular Arab country that is a known travel hub.
Though one of the smallest host countries to carry the World Cup games it was quite an experience for the country as they did massive renovations to one of their stadiums.
Along with building seven (7) more to properly host all the games throughout the series.
I honestly wish I was there to take it all in as watching the games from home gave me such goosebumps as I was filled with glee and excitement.

Since the games were held in Qatar, they were one of the first countries to kickstart the games by playing against Ecuador.
We were able to catch the match at a restaurant near us called Blue Rock Restaurant and Lounge.
Where To Catch The World Cup Games In Grand Cayman?
The ambiance of the restaurant was great. The service, drinks, and food were really good too.
Since we were only there to catch the game we got some beers and onion rings to munch on while we watched the match.
We even got FREE popcorn too! What’s a good football match without some popcorn?
As the match came to an end, sadly Qatar lost and Ecuador made it to the next round.
And as the matches kept playing throughout the weeks ahead, we caught a few of them on the road.
We were able to catch a game at the Cayman Islands Brewery, Cimboco Cafe/Restaurant, and the final match we caught back at Blue Rock where Argentina took home the trophy.
The unforgettable final match was an on-the-edge experience.
As Argentina and France battle it out to penalties to achieve the biggest title of them all, WORLD CHAMPS!
Suffice it to say, I was a football fan that day as D and I lost our voices cheering for Argentina’s victory.
I look forward to the next World Cup games which will be held in the summer of 2026.
