History Of Cayman Spirits Distillery
The tour began with Cayman’s first rum ever made. The OG of Cayman’s rum is called Seven Fathoms Rum.
The history behind the name began as the company wanted to find the best ways to age the perfect rum.
The idea to properly distill the rum was done by placing barrels of rum “seven fathoms” deep below the ocean surface level.
Imagine drinking something that’s aged underwater. That’s pretty cool to me!
I’ve read books about storing rum in barrels but never to be stored in the oceans to create such aromatic spirits.
From there, the company has stayed true to this method of rum making and created several other rum lines along the way.
Other Cayman Rums include:
- Governor’s Reserve Rum
- H.H. Hutchings
- Gun Bay Vodka
The first distillery on the island has come a long way with rum making and creating authentic, non-artificial flavoring rums ranging in unique flavors, colors, and history.
After the tour, I was in the best mood I could ever be, haha. We had a great time, and the tour was superb.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and made it worth it as it started as a little private tour (for us) since we were the first set of people to arrive.
